February 26 marks the 30th anniversary of the massacre in the city of Khojaly. In 1992, during the first Karabakh war, Armenian forces captured Khojaly, inhabited by Azerbaijanis, a massacre began there, hundreds of civilians were killed.
This fact is reflected in the reports of international organizations; the act of massacre is recognized by many parliaments of foreign countries. The Khojaly massacre was the most widespread, according to Human Rights Watch, and the most brutal bloodshed in the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
So far, no one in Armenia has been convicted of killing civilians. The genocide case was deliberately dropped. In December 2000, Serzh Sargsyan, the former president of Armenia, who at that time served as the defense minister, said in an interview: "Before Khojaly, Azerbaijanis thought that they could joke with us."
