OIC: Khojaly genocide - result of illegal occupation of Azerbaijani territory

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Yousef bin Ahmad al-Othaimeen, has made a statement on the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide committed by the Armenian armed forces against the peaceful Azerbaijanis.

The Secretary-General emphasized that the events in Khojaly are the result of the illegal occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia.

He referred to the resolutions adopted in previous sessions of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, including the 46th in Abu Dhabi in 2019, and the Cairo Final Communique of the 12th meeting of the Islamic Summit. They considered the actions perpetrated against Azerbaijani civilian population in the occupied Azerbaijani territories as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

The Secretary-General further reiterated the OIC's full support to Azerbaijan's initiatives and efforts to put an end to the occupation of its territories and to restore its territorial integrity.
