Expert: Armenia trying to artificially manufacture optics of humanitarian crisis in Karabakh

Armenia is trying to artificially manufacture the optics of a humanitarian crisis in Karabakh in order to scaremonger that a so-called "genocide" is occurring there, US expert and PhD in political science Andrew Korybko, who lives in Moscow, told Report.

"This is intended to galvanize Western public opinion and pressure those governments to take its side on this issue.

The only reason why Armenia is resorting to this disinformation campaign is because Russia doesn't support it continuing to illegally occupying universally recognized Azerbaijani territory," he said.

For this reason, Yerevan is now trying to court the West in a desperate last-ditch attempt to cling to the parts of Karabakh where today the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is temporarily stationed, he added.

It's unclear how successful this disinformation campaign will be, he stressed.

"Armenian extremists want to falsely portray the situation as a "Muslim genocide of Christians" in order for the conflict to be reconceptualized as a so-called "clash of civilizations".

They're therefore also trying to appeal to the most radical elements of Western society, particularly Islamophobes and White Supremacists, which is a very dangerous narrative development," he said.
