Excavations to be carried out in probable mass grave in Azerbaijan’s Fizuli in May

Excavations will be carried out by the expedition team in the probable mass grave in the village of Ashagi Seyidahmadli of Fuzuli district next month, the Deputy Head of the Working Group of the Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Eldar Samadov, said, Report informs.

He said that as a result of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan, 3890 people were registered as missing persons in the first Karabakh war: “3,171 of them are military personnel and 719 civilians. Among civilians, 71 are minors, 267 are women, and 326 are elderly. Of the total number of missing persons, 872 people, including 29 children, 98 women, and 112 elderly people, have been taken hostage or remain in the occupied territories. Armenia hides the fact of detention of these persons from international organizations and does not provide information about their further fate until now. Both Azerbaijanis and Armenians who went missing during the First Karabakh War went missing in the territories occupied by Armenia at the time, and Armenia has data about those people. However, as in all fields, the Armenian side does not show a constructive position in humanitarian issues.”

Samadov noted that another reason preventing the determination of the future fate of the missing persons is the contamination of the liberated territories with mines and unexploded military ammunition.
