Work is underway in the village of Ashagi Seyidahmadli of Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli district to clear mines in the territory where the mass grave of Azerbaijanis killed by Armenian forces during the First Karabakh War is supposedly located.

Habil Babayev, head of the mine clearance group of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), told Report’s Karabakh bureau that it is planned to clear 4 hectares of land in connection with the search for a mass grave.

He noted that 15 percent of the territory was cleared in 10 days and 59 anti-tank mines were found: “The territory is literally crammed with mines. This was done with the expectation that Azerbaijanis would come to the mass grave to look for the graves of their relatives.”

Experts are identifying thousands of so-called booby traps in the liberated territories: “It takes a long time to find and destroy them, which affects the pace of work to clear mines.”
