Russian airlines have begun massive flight cancellations across the country due to cuts in government subsidies by around $188.5 million, Report informs referring to Izvestia newspaper.
In 2023, funding for the regional flight program bypassing Moscow was cut from $113 million to $92.3 million due to a state budget deficit.
“The Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsiya) approached the issue formally: they removed from the program those routes for which airlines have not yet concluded agreements on co-financing flights with regional authorities,” the newspaper reports, citing a source.
Most flights were canceled in the Omsk and Tyumen regions, Tatarstan, St. Petersburg, Dagestan and North Ossetia.
