Passenger transportation surges by over 17% in Azerbaijan

In January-September 2023, freight and passenger transportation in Azerbaijan increased by 5.9% and 17.1%, respectively, compared to the same period last year, Report informs, citing the State Statistical Committee.

According to the Committee, 166.9 million tons of cargo were transported during 9 months, 56.7% of which was transported by road, 30.8% by pipeline, 8.2% by railway, 4.2% by sea, and 0.1% by air.

The volume of cargo transported by vehicles of the non-state sector increased by 5.2%, and the specific weight of this sector in the total volume of transported cargo was 77.4%.

Transport companies served 1,364 million passengers during the reporting period: 88% of passengers were transported by car, 11.5% by metro, and the rest by other types of transport.
