Pakistan exporting cargoes to Europe via Azerbaijan

Pakistan has started shipping goods to Azerbaijan and Europe to expand its export potential, the Azerbaijan International Road Transport Association (AIRTA) told Report.

For this purpose, a delegation of National Logistics Cell company is visiting Baku. During the visit, a meeting was held between the Pakistani delegation and officials of the State Motor Transport Service (SMTS) and the Azerbaijan International Road Transport Association (AIRTA) at the latter’s office. The sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan's transit opportunities and ensuring the passage of Pakistani trucks through Azerbaijan in accordance with local rules of procedure.

Faisal Zeshan, an official of National Logistics Cell, said that Pakistan was working on export opportunities of local products, such as marble, silk, rice and textiles, which have a high purchasing power in Europe. It was noted that the first test consignment belonging to Pakistan has already passed through Azerbaijan and reached Turkey. The first test shipment will reach Azerbaijan on October 5-6.

During the meeting, Deputy Chief of the State Motor Transport Service Anar Rzayev stressed the importance of exchanging permits between the two countries. It was noted that the logistics company National Logistics Cell can carry out shipments under the International Transport Convention (TIR).

ABADA Secretary General Orkhan Afandiyev said that as a public entity, they will provide the necessary support to the logistics company National Logistics Cell.

It was noted at the meeting that the newly-established Pakistan-Azerbaijan Economic Chamber could have a positive impact on export-import opportunities between the two countries. The possibility of transporting Pakistani cargo to Europe via Azerbaijani carriers was also discussed.
