Kazakhstan aims to boost port capacity along Trans-Caspian route

As part of its strategic vision to develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, Kazakhstan has announced plans to increase the capacity of its ports from the current 21 million tons to an impressive 30 million tons per year by 2030, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport said, according to Report.

During a recent working visit to the Mangystau region, Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev personally inspected the operations of major transport infrastructure facilities along the Caspian Sea. His tour included visits to the seaports of Aktau, Kuryk, and Bautino, as well as the marine terminals of Sarzha, Yersay, and Severny.

The ministry's statement emphasized the ongoing efforts to create additional container terminal capacities, upgrade loading equipment, improve logistics, streamline customs and administrative procedures, and digitalize the TITR and North-South corridors.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which stretches from China to Europe via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, has already witnessed significant growth in cargo transportation. In the first seven months of this year, the volume of goods transported along the Middle Corridor surged by an impressive 62%, reaching 2.5 million tons compared to 1.6 million tons during the same period last year. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad is part of the corridor.
