Global DTC to start tracking CO₂ emissions along Middle Corridor

Global DTC Pte Ltd will track carbon dioxide emissions along the entire Middle Corridor route, the company's Deputy General Director Alua Satybaldiyeva told Report on the sidelines of the "Middle Corridor: Connection via the Caspian Sea" round table in Baku.

"At COP29, we signed a Declaration of Intent with three participants: PSA International, Global DTC and the International Association Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). PSA has a certified op-tracker tool, with which we plan to track CO₂ emissions along the entire route. Now we are gradually connecting railways, ports and shipping companies to this process in order to calculate two baselines of emissions - minimum and maximum," noted Satybaldiyeva.

She emphasized that the Middle Corridor is already a green route, but for an objective assessment it is important to determine its environmental parameters: "It is expected that increasing the transparency of emissions will help attract additional cargo flow, including in the opposite direction - from Europe to China."

The Middle Corridor connects China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye and Europe. In October 2023, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan created a joint railway company Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd. to improve the efficiency of transit transportation.

The volume of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian route in 2024 increased by 62%, reaching 4.5 million tons. As part of the route development, its capacity is planned to be increased to 10 million tons by 2027.
