Today, the first direct flight from Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, arrived at Gabala International Airport in Azerbaijan.
According to a Report correspondent dispatched to Gabala, the flight was operated by Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, which has launched a new route connecting Abu Dhabi and Gabala.
Flights will be operated three times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The inaugural flight took place on June 19.
The launch of direct air service is expected to boost tourism to Azerbaijan's regions.
According to the State Tourism Agency, Azerbaijan welcomed 979,963 tourists between January and May of this year — a 1.5% increase compared to the same period last year. In May alone, the country received 264,079 international visitors, marking a 2% year-on-year rise.
