AZAL operates its first flight to Shymkent

On June 16, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) successfully operated its inaugural flight on the Baku-Shymkent route.

According to a Report correspondent from Shymkent, the opening of this new route will be an important step in the development of air traffic between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan and will contribute to the growth of tourism and business ties, as well as the expansion of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

According to AZAL's summer flight schedule, Baku-Shymkent flights will be operated twice a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays – from June 16 to 27, 2026.

Starting from June 30, 2026, the flight frequency will be increased to three flights per week. Flights from Baku to Shymkent will be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and in the opposite direction – on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

A special event was organized in Shymkent to mark the opening of the new route. The event was attended by media representatives, as well as representatives from the tourism and aviation industries.

Guests had the opportunity to explore the city's tourism potential, its cultural heritage, and its modern infrastructure.

The inclusion of Shymkent in AZAL's route network will further expand passenger travel opportunities and contribute to strengthening the national air carrier's position in Central Asia and developing ties between the countries of the region.

Air tickets can be purchased on the official website www.azal.az, through the airline's mobile app, as well as at AZAL ticket offices and authorized agencies.
