Association: Public-private cooperation is vital for sustainable cities

Cooperation between the public and private sectors is essential for the development of sustainable cities, stated Orkhan Chobanzada, a member of the Azerbaijan Construction Materials Manufacturers Association, during a WUF13 event, according to Report.

According to him, the construction of sustainable cities should not be limited solely to building residential complexes.

"In this process, the human factor plays a more important role. Issues such as social responsibility, measuring service quality, and improving public welfare should also be among the main priorities. In this direction, the state develops planning and strategies. However, the responsibilities of the private sector are also quite significant. The main objective here is the implementation of new innovations, the creation of new jobs, and support for improving people"s welfare across various sectors," he said.

Chobanzade noted that one of the private sector"s key responsibilities is adopting innovative approaches, which are important both for creating jobs and ensuring employment.

He also stressed the importance of being open to innovation. Although the government develops strategies and plans, the active participation of the private sector in implementing them is crucial.

"As an example, the use of alternative energy systems, the construction of buildings in line with sustainability standards, and ensuring that urban infrastructure meets modern requirements are all important issues. Recent problems related to rainwater drainage, sewage, and waste management systems also show that the private sector bears significant responsibility in this area. The private sector should study how these problems can be solved, submit proposals to the government, and operate in cooperation with the state in all these approaches," Chobanzade added.
