Türkiye is studying Azerbaijan's experience in caviar production.

Employees of the Central Fisheries Research Institute (SUMAE) in Trabzon, which operates under the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) of Türkiye's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, told Report's Türkiye bureau about the cooperation.

They said the center has carried out research and development activities since 1987 on Türkiye's marine and inland water resources, particularly the Black Sea, which accounts for 80% of the country's fisheries production.

The institute's main objectives include studying the sustainable use of water resources, protecting biodiversity, supporting the development of science-based fisheries and aquaculture policies, and transferring research results and scientific knowledge to the sector.

According to the institute, cooperation is also underway with relevant Azerbaijani institutions.

As part of this cooperation, Azerbaijan's experience is being studied in breeding the endangered Mersin species of sturgeon in the Black Sea and in caviar production.

Under a state program, sturgeon requiring special care are being bred in pools installed at SUMAE.

An international event is also being held in Trabzon as part of preparations for COP31, which will take place in Antalya, Türkiye, in November this year.

The program, organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of Türkiye from September 10 to 12, brings together 27 journalists from 17 countries.
