Chinese electric bus manufacturer becomes resident of Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park

Within the framework of the agreement signed between the Azerbaijani government and the Chinese company BYD on the localization of electric bus production in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Energy Automotive Factory LLC was granted resident status in the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park, Report informs, citing the Economic Zones Development Agency under the Ministry of Economy.

The project, with an investment value of over 29 million manats ($17 million), will provide 600 jobs. The enterprise, which will use advanced Chinese technology, is expected to start operating this year.

The buses will be sold under the BYD brand name and, at the initial stage, the production of 12-meter-long BYD K9UD model buses will be carried out. The annual production capacity of the enterprise will be 500 buses.

The buses will be aimed at meeting domestic demand in the initial stage and will be exported in the next stage.
