The 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29), held in Baku, became a crucial platform for addressing global climate change and enhancing international cooperation, Brazil's Vice President Geraldo Alckmin said.
According to Report, Alckmin stated at the Rumos 2025 event organized by the Brazilian financial publication Valor Econômico that COP29 opened new perspectives for the "green economy" and sustainable development.
"Brazil's environmental and economic initiatives presented at this conference reaffirmed our country's commitment to playing a leading role in the fight against climate change. We aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 59-67% by 2035," Alckmin remarked.
He also emphasized that hosting COP30 in Brazil will create new opportunities for the country.
"We attach great importance to energy transition. Approximately 90% of Brazil’s electricity is generated from renewable sources—water, solar, wind, and biomass. This is our strategic advantage. We are actively working on regulating the carbon market, developing green hydrogen production, and sustainable industrialization. International cooperation in these areas is a priority for us," the Vice President added.
