"No matter how ambitious we are to hold this race, it is impossible to say for sure during the pandemic," said Ayan Najaf-Agayeva, head of the public relations department of the Baku City Circuit Operation Company (BCC).
According to Report, she said that they are pretentious to organize the Azerbaijani Grand Prix as the best competition of the season: "The organizers are making every effort to provide fans with the necessary images on television. Although the competition was without fans, the activity of the media has increased. Because Formula 1 fans get information about the race from them. Even if there is a delay or a stop in any race, the Grand Prix must end in 3 hours. Earlier, a race lasted up to 4 hours."
The BCC official noted that along with Formula 1, there would be a Formula 2 race in Baku: "Sometimes this did not happen at the Grand Prix in Baku. But it will happen this season."
Najaf-Agayeva called it gratifying that despite the cancellation of some Grand Prix, the race in Azerbaijan will be held under the schedule.
She said it was not yet clear whether the term of the Azerbaijani Grand Prix would be extended: "The current contract will expire in 2024. Relations with the management of Formula 1 are normal. It is too early to talk about a new agreement."
Note that the Azerbaijani Grand Prix will be held on June 4-6.
