Azerbaijan Chess Federation official may get his 2nd Guinness record - EXCLUSIVE

Faig Hasanov, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and international referee, may once again get his name included in the Guinness Book of Records, the chess specialist told Report.

Hasanov first shared his thoughts on being listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-serving referee:

"It is very difficult to get here. Because the requirements are heavy. There are so many questions... You have to answer all of them with documents. I have been hosting a chess program in Azerbaijan since 1969. I was first invited to competitions as an arbiter in 1964. Then I participated in several more tournaments, arbitrated the Transcaucasian Championship. In 1972, at the USSR Championship in Baku, I was an assistant to the chief referee. After that, I seriously took up refereeing, participated in many FIDE tournaments."

Hasanov also stressed that he could once again get into the Guinness Book of Records as the project manager and host of the longest-running chess TV show in the world. "The application is still under consideration. Our show could also get into the Book as the longest-running in the world. The current record is 43 years, and our show has been on air for exactly 55 years. We are waiting for confirmation," the referee said.
