State Commission: Remains found in Asgaran allegedly belong to victims of Khojaly genocide

The remains discovered in a mass grave near the fortress walls in the village of Asgaran, Khojaly district of Azerbaijan, will be sent to the appropriate laboratories for identification, a representative of the working group of the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Citizens, Zaur Ismayilov, told journalists, the Karabakh bureau of Report informs.

He noted that the mass grave was discovered based on the testimony of Beglaryan Rashid Aramaisi, a direct participant in the Khojaly genocide:

“The State Commission began excavations in October-November last year and discovered the burial in February of this year. Presumably, the remains belong to victims of the Khojaly genocide.”

Ismayilov noted that, according to experts, the remains of at least eight people are buried there, and it is possible that as a result of ongoing search work, this number will increase.

“In the next stage, the remains will be sent to the relevant laboratories for identification. The public will be informed of the results,” he said.
