168,000 hectares of area cleared of mines in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories

Approximately 168,000 hectares of area have been cleared of mines in the liberated territories, Ramil Azizov, the head of the Awareness and Victim Assistance Department of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), said during a round table discussion on "Mine Victims in Azerbaijan: Achievements and Challenges," Report informs.
Azizov noted that 161,000 mines had been discovered in the cleared areas:
"About 25,000 of them are anti-personnel mines. Since 1991, more than 3,400 people have become mine victims. From the end of the Patriotic War until the end of 2021, 77 mine incidents occurred. Since then, as a result of awareness efforts, the number of incidents has decreased by up to 60%."
