Turksat: Central Asia becoming new global hub in satellite technology dev’t

Central Asia is becoming one of the most promising regions for the future development of space technologies, Omer Shamil Acba, Business Development and Sales Manager at Turksat Company, said at the Space Technologies Conference (STC2025) in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, the strategic geographical position and dynamic human capital of this region are among the key factors for development:

"Due to its geopolitical position, Central Asia has historically played an important role in the development of science, culture, and economy. The region has become an innovation center for technological advancements, contributing to the improvement of important sectors. Acting as a bridge between East and West, Central Asia offers unique opportunities for satellite technologies."

He emphasized that today satellite communication plays an irreplaceable role in global communication infrastructure: "These technologies connect populations living in rural and remote areas, reduce digital inequality, and contribute to economic development. They also create secure and uninterrupted connections for military, maritime and automotive communications, corporate and mobile networks. Satellite communication is also an essential tool for providing operational communication during emergencies and natural disasters."

Acba also believes that satellite technologies are becoming increasingly important in managing natural disasters, protecting water resources, developing agriculture, and urban planning through real-time imagery.

"The application of these technologies is especially necessary in conflict zones, in protecting border security, in fighting forest fires, and in eliminating the consequences of disasters," he stated.
