Azerbaijan is very active in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and its activity is commendable, Natalia Mochu, Regional Director of the ITU for CIS countries, said at the GSMA M360 Eurasia 2024 international conference held in Baku, Report informs.
Speaking about the Internet usage by region, the director noted that 89% of the population in the CIS region uses the internet: "When we talk about the difference between urban and rural internet use, we witness quite high numbers in the CIS region. There are still some gaps in internet access in rural areas. In addition, 90% of men and 88% of women use the internet in the CIS region. Even in a number of countries of our region, the number of women internet users is higher than men."
She also mentioned that the collection of reliable data is also very important: "Azerbaijan and other countries of the region are doing important work in terms of collecting reliable data. Reliable data is the tool we use to develop the digital sector and help member states. ITU member states and regulators should use this information properly when making decisions."
