An international conference GSMA M360 Eurasia 2023 kicked off in Baku, Azerbaijan on May 16, Report informs.

This two-day event has been supported by Azerbaijan’s leading mobile operator Azercell and the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan.

Both regional and international experts joined the conference that focused on three key topics reflecting current technology trends in the region and the world: the next-generation connectivity, pervasive digitalization, and open technologies. The conference participants have also aimed to address the growing importance of digital inclusion and humanitarian aid through connectivity.

The conference was opened by the General Director of GSMA Mats Granryd who addressed the audience with the report on the digital divide.

The Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev talked about the nation's activity on the matter and future plans and goals.

"By the end of 2024, we expect all households in Azerbaijan to be provided with Internet. In this respect, infrastructure is a major part of our work," he said.

The President of the Carrier Networks Business Group at Huawei Middle East & Central Asia Region An Jian said that the digital economy is crucial for global economic development, and a strategic approach is necessary.

"Research shows that between 2015 and 2025, 55% of global economic growth will come from the digital economy. During this period, the digital economy's contribution is expected to reach 24.3%," he said.

According to him, investing in ICT is critical in driving digital economy development, especially in developing countries.

"On average, every $1 invested in the ICT sector increases global GDP by $3.5. In developing countries, this investment can lead to a growth of $4.4," Mr. Jian said.

He also mentioned that the digital economy is driving global growth, and Azerbaijan are among those who lead the way.

The second part of the event featured a speaker's meeting and panel discussions.

"Events around the world indicate that the introduction of 5G contributes to business improvement. The introduction of 5G in Azerbaijan is mandatory. This will be by turning investments in 4G into 5G. In this connection, the flow of investments had to be ensured," said David Xu, CEO, Huawei Technologies Azerbaijan LLC.

During the session, speakers reviewed the key components of digital sustainability and strategies for creating a future-proof digital ecosystem.
