Azerbaijan presents candidacy for ITU Council membership for 2027-2030

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council session is being held in Geneva, Switzerland, Report informs, citing Azerbaijan's Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
Azerbaijan is represented at the event by a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samaddin Asadov.
The Council session discussed the report of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) held in Baku, preparations for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference to be held this year, as well as the World Radiocommunication Conference and Radiocommunication Assembly scheduled for 2027. The Strategic and Financial Plan for 2028–2031 and other issues were also in focus.
Azerbaijan's candidacy for membership of the ITU Council for 2027–2030, as well as the candidacy of an Azercosmos representative for membership of the Radio Regulations Board, was presented at the session.
As part of the Council session, Deputy Minister Samaddin Asadov met with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side provided information on measures being taken in the field of digital development in Azerbaijan, and the parties discussed opportunities to expand existing cooperation.
The deputy minister also held bilateral meetings with Turkish Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Omer Fatih Sayan, Kazakh Deputy Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Doszhan Mussaliyev, and Chinese Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xiong Jijun.
These meetings were important in terms of presenting Azerbaijan's position in digital development at the international level, expanding the exchange of experience in artificial intelligence and innovation, and forming new bilateral and multilateral cooperation opportunities.
An informal ministerial meeting was held before the ITU Council session. The meeting discussed member states" opportunities to use new technologies, increasing private sector participation, improving the financing model, renewing cooperation with the UN, and other issues.
