Azerbaijan is making significant strides in the implementation of digital identity across private and public sectors. According to Shahin Aliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, serious efforts are underway to introduce digital ID in collaboration with private companies and government institutions.
Speaking at the presentation of the updated MyGov digital government platform, Aliyev highlighted the risks associated with the current practice of copying and storing citizens' physical ID cards in various locations. She emphasized that this approach poses significant challenges in terms of personal data protection.
The concept of digital ID emerged as a solution to mitigate these risks and enhance security: "With the introduction of digital ID through the MyGov platform, citizens can now present their identification electronically. This development not only offers greater control over personal data but also paves the way for future advancements in data protection measures."
