"Medical waste segregation usually takes place inside a hospital. Our responsibility is to dispose of medical waste in the hospital correctly. There are certain problems in this area," said Yagut Garayeva, head of the Disease Prevention and Control Department of the Azerbaijani Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TABIB).
According to her, all waste in contact with the patient is considered medical waste:
"There is a risk of waste from cutting tools in hospitals. Non-perforated plastic containers should be used for such disposal. There are also serious problems in the transportation of waste in our country. This is not a burden that the hospital itself can carry. The utilization of each hospital's own waste can cause certain problems."
