US State Department spox avoids Report's question regarding discrimination against Azerbaijan

The administration of US President Joseph Biden previously announced that for the first time in the country's history it would prepare a national strategy to combat Islamophobia.

The White House said in a statement that the administration is working with community leaders, human rights advocates and Congress members to develop a strategy to combat all forms of Islamophobia and hatred.

While the United States' first national strategy to combat Islamophobia is an innovation that has been welcomed amid rising hatred of Muslims around the world in recent years, some experts agree that growing Islamophobic trends in the United States are influencing the country's foreign policy decisions.

In this context, an example is the double standards of the United States in terms of providing humanitarian assistance to persons affected by the former conflict in Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Report's American bureau asked US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller about the country's first national strategy to combat Islamophobia. Noting discrimination against Azerbaijan in the context of providing humanitarian assistance, which is not observed in relation to Armenia, as a sign of Islamophobia, the news agency employee asked for appropriate clarification from the State Department spokesperson. She also asked whether the adopted strategy to combat Islamophobia will affect US foreign policy.

The United States is courageously fighting against hatred of Muslims everywhere, Miller said.

Hatred, discrimination, and violence against Muslims offends more than just Muslims, because it is often closely linked to perceptions and incorrect assumptions between Muslims, terrorism, xenophobia, and racism, the State Department said in response.

Regarding the double standards in terms of providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons in Armenia and Azerbaijan, the spokesman noted that the United States is and will remain a global leader in international humanitarian efforts, including refugee resettlement.

He added that the United States will continue to provide shelter to the world’s most vulnerable people and safe access to humanitarian assistance programs without discrimination.

As can be seen, the question asked was answered not in essence and did not touch upon specific points. At the same time, the US State Department asked to contact the White House press service regarding the mentioned issues.

Report will soon publish the White House's position on the indicated issue.
