US Senate passes bill suspending assistance to Azerbaijan

The US Senate passed a bill to repeal the Freedom Support Act section 907 waiver authority with respect to assistance to Azerbaijan, Report informs citing the Senate’s website.
The bill implies a reluctance to suspend section 907 on Azerbaijan, which is an unfriendly act towards the country.
The Freedom Support Act section 907 generally prohibits assistance by the US to the government of Azerbaijan.
Every year since 2002, the White House has issued a waiver to provide aid to Azerbaijan.
The bill must be approved by the House of Representatives and signed by the president before it can take effect.
