The UN is very concerned about the injuries caused by mines, UN Secretary-General's Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told Report.
Dujarric said that he will investigate the recent landmine explosion in Azerbaijan's Aghdam district that left one person injured.
"We will review this issue. Yesterday, we again touched upon the importance of international treaties against anti-personnel mines. We will have press conferences on this topic ahead of April 4 - International Mine Awareness Day," the spokesman noted.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in an interview with Report last November, emphasized that mine clearance efforts in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan are one of the top priorities for the UN. He noted that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been working in this regard in the region for many years.
However, UNDP's failure to provide any information about the mine clearance efforts in the region and the incidents that have occurred raises questions.
