Export of Azerbaijani gas to Syria is another example of energy diplomacy between Turkic states, the Deputy Chairman of Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Kürşad Zorlu wrote on X, Report informs.
"Azerbaijani gas is already flowing to Aleppo through Türkiye. BOTAŞ company under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye has completed the construction of a 36-inch pipeline with a length of 93 kilometers, which starts in the Türkoğlu district of Kahramanmaraş province and extends to Syria. Türkiye will transport natural gas from Azerbaijan directly to neighboring Syria through Kilis," the deputy chairman noted.
Zorlu also noted that the normalization of life in Syria, the resumption of electricity production, and support for stability accelerate the process of safe return of displaced persons to their native lands: "This strategic line develops the potential of the Turkic world to establish regional order, promotes development and stability. This vision, presented under the leadership of our president (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan), creates the basis for establishing an atmosphere of trust, tranquility, and well-being through bilateral and multilateral cooperation."
The gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Syria began on August 2. At the first stage of the project, it is planned to export 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Syria per year. The gas will be delivered to power plants in Aleppo and Homs and used for electricity generation.
