Russian expert: South Caucasus and Caspian region gaining crucial geopolitical importance today

Russian political scientist and Director General of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies, Igor Korotchenko, stated that today the South Caucasus and Caspian region are gaining crucial geopolitical and economic importance, Korotchenko said at a press conference in Baku on Monday.

"Today, many states, particularly in the West, are trying to control the development of socio-political processes in sovereign states. In this regard, it is useless to put pressure on Azerbaijan. And whatever efforts France and other unfriendly countries make, I am absolutely convinced that the result, including the parliamentary elections held on September 1, will be Azerbaijan's resilience to any external factors of influence," he noted.

According to him, Azerbaijan today is a country that sets global trends that are in demand by the international community.

"Today, objectively, the South Caucasus and Caspian region is gaining crucial geopolitical and economic importance. Azerbaijan today is responsible not only for its own security but has a de facto mandate to maintain the security and stability of the South Caucasus. This is also evidence of the successes in state political construction that Azerbaijan has achieved during the years of its independence," the Russian expert believes.

Korotchenko also expressed confidence that COP29 will be held in Azerbaijan at the highest level.
