Destruction of graves and mosques is one of the main crimes against humanity we saw, Vice Chairperson of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Haci Ali Acikgul, told journalists in Ganja, Report informs.
He said that the main purpose of the visit is to investigate, document, and bring to the attention of the international community the facts of human rights violations in Karabakh during the 30-year occupation: "Yesterday, we visited Fuzuli and then Aghdam. We are in Ganja today. Robbery in cemeteries, removal of headstones, defacement of graves, destruction of mosques were among the main crimes against humanity that we saw."
Acikgul also mentioned that Armenians kept animals, including pigs, in mosques for many years: "About 1 million people were forced to leave their lands. We got acquainted with the facts about it. All these are war crimes"
He noted that they got acquainted with the results of the rocket attack on the city: "Unfortunately, 6 children were killed as a result of the rocket attack. Their toys are kept as mementos. According to the Geneva Convention, the deliberate targeting of civilian targets during wartime is a war crime and a violation of human rights. We will document these facts."
