NATO Admiral: Alliance’s сooperation with Azerbaijan based on mutual interests

The relationship between NATO and Azerbaijan represents an important strategic partnership, NATO Admiral Rob Bauer told journalists on the sidelines of the alliance summit, according to Report's European bureau.

The admiral said Azerbaijan is one of the 35 official partners of the North Atlantic Alliance, which defines the unique nature of their cooperation.

“Cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan is based on specific requests from the Azerbaijani side regarding areas of partnership,” Bauer stated.

He noted that the scope of cooperation is determined through direct dialogue between NATO and Azerbaijan.

“An important component of the partnership includes joint exercises and other forms of practical interaction. At the same time, cooperation is not based on directives from NATO but rather on the areas where Azerbaijan wishes to work, both with individual alliance member states and with the organization as a whole,” he concluded.
