MP: Situation in French Polynesia shows that colonial policy continues

The modern discourse of decolonization has not yet reached its logical conclusion for the peoples living in the 17 territories of the world, Azerbaijani MP Nizami Safarov said at the conference titled "French Polynesia's right to decolonization: challenges and perspectives" held at the parliament on May 30, Report informs.

He noted that some countries still continue the colonization policy:

"The situation in French Polynesia proves it. Only in 2010, the French government established a compensation commission for nuclear testing. Without Polynesia, France could not acquire nuclear weapons. On the 25th anniversary of the nuclear tests in 2021, French President Emmanuel Macron visited the territory and did not officially apologize to this nation. On December 10, 2020, the UN passed a resolution, according to which 2020-2030 is considered the fourth decade of complete liberation from colonization, and I hope that Polynesia will get rid of this colonization in that period."
