Melvine Wajiri: Azerbaijan serves as model for involving civil society in global processes

Azerbaijan serves as a model for the involvement of civil society in global processes, Melvine Wajiri, Head of the UN Coalition of NGOs for Social Development, told journalists on the sidelines of the second day of the Founding Conference of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku, according to Report.

"I believe we are entering a new phase here in Azerbaijan. In my eight years of working with civil society in various countries, this is the first time I have seen a government so openly committed to engaging with non-governmental organizations through a platform that allows them to work hand in hand with the global civil society," he noted.

According to him, Azerbaijan's initiative demonstrates how a state can not only complement the efforts of NGOs but also involve partners from Global South countries in the process.
