The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and the government of Azerbaijan have created a safe space for colonized peoples to voice their problems openly, June Soomer, the Chair of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, told a conference titled “Bonaire’s Pathway from Baku through UN General Assembly to Self-Determination,” Report informs.
“Thank you for your courage to step forward and join us, the people of Bonaire, in our ongoing struggle of more than four centuries. I must point out that peoples living under colonial rule are often treated as misbehaving children, and the voices of freedom movements are often ignored or disrespected. That's why it's so important for us to have a safe space to express our thoughts.”
