Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received a delegation led by OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu during the latter’s visit to the country.
According to Report, following a bilateral meeting between the heads of the delegations, extended negotiations were held with the participation of representatives from both sides.
The discussions focused in detail on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OSCE, regional developments and challenges, the post-conflict situation, as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
It was noted that in the context of ongoing tensions and the complexity of the situation within the OSCE area, the Organization needs to adapt to new realities, maintain its relevance as a multilateral platform, and effectively fulfill its responsibilities.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijan has been an active OSCE member since the early years of its independence, and that the current post-conflict period presents broad opportunities for expanded cooperation.
The minister informed his counterpart about recent developments in the region, large-scale reconstruction and development efforts in the liberated territories, the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands, and the measures being taken to address the threat of landmines.
It was also noted that the OSCE could play a role in the restoration and reconstruction of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories through projects in areas such as demining and environmental assessment.
The sides also exchanged views on the progress of negotiations over the draft peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and on the situation following the conclusion of the negotiation phase.
It was emphasized that for a peace agreement to be signed, Armenia must eliminate territorial claims against Azerbaijan that are still present in its constitution, and that outdated OSCE institutions—such as the Minsk Group, the Personal Representative of the Chairperson-in-Office, and the High-Level Planning Group—should be dissolved.
Other regional and international security issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
At the end, Jeyhun Bayramov and Feridun Sinirlioglu made statements at a press briefing and answered journalists’ questions.
