Jaffar Hasnain: Many 'social media journalists' often neglect basic professional standards

Journalism is a highly responsible profession, and one of its key principles is a careful approach to selecting sources of information, journalist and TRT World anchor Jaffar Hasnain said during the 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum.

According to Report, he noted that in today's world, many so-called "social media journalists" neglect basic professional standards.

"They get their news from platforms like X or Instagram and immediately share it with their audience. But in most cases, the information spread through social media turns out to be inaccurate. We've already seen many examples of this in the past," he said.

The journalist emphasized that a true professional must go through all stages of verification before publishing any material.

"Yes, you may have a phone and call yourself a journalist. But journalism is much more than that. It involves a complex and important process and requires an understanding of how the media industry works," Hasnain said.
