Deputy foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia discuss regional security

Another round of consultations took place in Baku between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Russia on issues of regional and European security, Report informs citing Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Consultations took place between Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov and Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko.

The parties exchanged views on issues of regional and international security, discussed issues of cooperation within the framework of regional cooperation formats in which both countries participate, as well as issues on the agenda of European regional organizations and of mutual interest.

The details of the meetings held by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko in Azerbaijan during his two-day visit have been announced, Report informs, citing the Russian MFA.

According to the ministry, Grushko met with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Araz Azimov, and discussed regional and European security issues.

Grushko was also received by Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev. Moreover, Grushko met with the Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on special assignments, Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, and the chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Samad Seyidov.

During the meetings, mutual activity in the South Caucasus, the security of Europe, including the OSCE, and the situation in the Council of Europe were discussed. In addition, a broad exchange of views was held regarding the two countries' relations with the European Union and NATO, and topical issues on the bilateral and international agenda were also touched upon.

"The leading role and special responsibility of regional states in maintaining stability and security in the South Caucasus were emphasized. Both sides confirmed their commitment to continuing close dialogue on regional and European security issues," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
