French historian comments on lack of statesmanship in Canada

A large part of the problem is a lack of statesmanship in Canada, ADA University teacher, French historian, political scientist Maxime Gauin said while commenting on baseless accusations against Azerbaijan made by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly during her visit to Armenia, Report informs.

He said that Canada is a particularly problematic country: "You may remember that it stopped the exports of cameras for Bayraktar TB2 in 2020, during the 44-day war - by comparison, the Macron administration refused to cancel the contracts of military material sold to Azerbaijan, and new ones were concluded in 2021."

He said that Azerbaijani immigration in Canada is active and linked to the strong Ukrainian diaspora: "The Turkish organizations are less active than in Switzerland but more than in France. Last but not least, the Armenian diaspora's strength hardly has anything to do with the strength in the US. As a result, it is fair to conclude that a large part of the problem is a lack of statesmanship."

Gauin stressed that the Turkic organizations can and should do even more, but in knowing that their interlocutors often have a poor understanding of the situation.

According to the political scientist, it is also clear that this kind of statement encourages the Armenian opposition and the extremists of the Armenian diaspora in their fight against the peace treaty.
