Elchin Amirbayov: Armenia should provide Azerbaijan with verifiable and credible guarantees to ensure movement through Zangazur corridor 

Armenia should provide us with verifiable and credible guarantees that any Azerbaijani passenger, who would take a train from mainland through the Zangazur Corridor to Nakhcivan, their security should be ensured, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, Elchin Amirbayov, said while answering the questions of Michael Doran, a senior fellow and director of the Center for Peace and Security in the Middle East at Hudson Institute, and Luke Coffey, a senior fellow at Hudson Institute, Report informs.

“As far as the Zangazur corridor is concerned, Armenians misinterpreted our reading of what the corridor means. We say that the Zangazur corridor doesn’t mean that we demand extra-territoriality of this piece of land. We recognize it as an Armenian sovereign territory,” Amirbayov said.

He said it’s another question that how they will ensure the security of the corridor: “That is a separate issue because, in accordance with the tripartite statement, the security of movement will be insured by Russian border guards. Now, it seems like Armenia is rethinking this commitment, so they are no longer happy with this role given to Russians.”
