Azerbaijan and Serbia are indeed enjoying friendship and strategic partnership based on active political driving principles of international law, in particular the territorial integrity, sovereignty and viability of internationally recognized borders, Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev said at the 8th session of the Azerbaijan-Serbia Joint Intergovernmental Commission On Trade and Economic Cooperation, according to Report.
"It is crucial to continue the constructive practice of principled mutual support within international platforms and organizations. The memorandum on establishment of Strategic Partnership Council between Azerbaijan and Serbia, signed in Belgrade in November 2022 during the official visit of President of Azerbaijan reflects strong political will of our countries to further deepen bilateral relations," Rzayev said.
He said the commission plays an important role in the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
"Energy cooperation indeed is the principal dimension, but our relations are not limited to energy exclusively. There are fields of cooperation in the road, infrastructure, construction, tourism, humanitarian fields, education and so on," the deputy minister said.
He also emphasized the importance of an agreement on visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports concluded between the government of Azerbaijan and the government of Serbia which entered into force last year.
"This indeed is an important contribution to the development of tourism and people-to-people contacts. We highly value the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the city of Shusha of Azerbaijan and the city of Novi Pazar of Serbia in March last year," Rzayev said, adding that this was the first document of the kind assigned to Shusha after its liberation from the long-term illegal military occupation.
