Azerbaijani Prosecutor General, ICMP head discuss co-op on missing persons

Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev has met with a delegation led by Kathryne Bomberger, Director‑General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), who is visiting Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General's Office told Report.

During the meeting, Aliyev noted that effective cooperation between the Prosecutor General's Office and the ICMP has been established since 2023.

He emphasized that ICMP's work is particularly sensitive, as the exchange of information on missing persons is vital for protecting the rights of victims' families. He added that this issue is under the special attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev.

The Prosecutor General briefed the delegation on efforts to identify mass graves of individuals tortured and killed, as well as on the process of determining the identities of those discovered.

Expressing gratitude for the meeting, Bomberger praised Azerbaijan's organization of data collection and exchange on missing persons, describing the level of cooperation as highly satisfactory. She also presented information on the newly developed Missing Persons Information Management System, discussing its capabilities and potential improvements.

During the meeting, the sides agreed to organize reciprocal training visits and enhance experience sharing.
