Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has commented on the upcoming April 6 meeting in Brussels between EU Council President Charles Michel, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Report informs that the Foreign Minister said that the meeting on April 6 is another opportunity:
"Azerbaijan is always open for negotiations. We believe that the April 6 meeting is another opportunity. The Azerbaijani side has already openly declared its position. Let's see how Armenia reacts, how ready they are to take steps to normalize relations," Bayramov said.
"I can't say that we have any specific expectations from such meetings," he added. "I can only once again outline the position of Azerbaijan - after the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands was ended and after the signing of the tripartite statement, the President of Azerbaijan repeatedly declared his readiness to normalize relations with Armenia, and put forward a proposal to start negotiations on signing a peace treaty. For almost a year, there was no real answer from the Armenian side on this issue."
Bayramov recalled that on February 21, the Azerbaijani side sent more specific proposals to the Armenian side, containing five basic principles for normalizing relations between the countries.
"We made very specific proposals based on international law. The Azerbaijani side did it openly, the media wrote about it. We believe that by doing this we once again demonstrated good intentions on our part," the Foreign Minister said.
