Armenia is abusing the human rights mechanisms of the UN, Spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Aykhan Hajizade said, Report informs.
Referring to the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vahan Hunanyan that Azerbaijan allegedly ignored the letter of the special mandate holders of the UN Human Rights Council, Hajizade noted that this statement by the Armenian side is another example of the hypocrisy of the country, which has been pursuing an aggressive policy for decades, violating the main rights of almost a million Azerbaijanis, committed numerous war crimes and massacres of military and civilians.
"Unfortunately, for these purposes, Armenia is now abusing the UN human rights mechanisms, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, treaty bodies and mandate holders, is conducting false propaganda. The Armenian side is using the next request of the UN mandate holders to Azerbaijan in a distorted form. Yerevan thus wants to cover up the war crimes committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis and divert the attention of the international community," he said.
Hajizade stressed that Azerbaijan has always taken its international commitments seriously and, in this context, is true to its obligations arising from international conventions and international humanitarian law.
"Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan investigates some allegations of violation of the requirements of international humanitarian law during military operations and responds to relevant requests within its international commitments," Hajizade stressed.
