Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with UN Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Office for Project Services Jorge Moreira da Silva during COP29, Report informs referring to the ministry.
The meeting participants discussed current cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, as well as matters arising from Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29 and prospects for expanding cooperation. Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information about preparations for COP29, emphasizing that close cooperation with the UN is one of the main priorities.
The importance of the negotiation process within COP29 was noted, and confidence was expressed that the achievements and active discussions at other high-level events held within COP29 would contribute to climate action.
Azerbaijan's national initiatives in green energy and development were highlighted, particularly in the context of large-scale restoration and construction work in liberated territories, where green technologies are widely implemented. It was emphasized that one of the main threats to restoration and development efforts in the region remains the ongoing mine threat, and international cooperation in combating this threat to citizens' life and health is crucial.
The interlocutor noted Azerbaijan's commendable approach to close cooperation with the UN in organizing COP29 and highly appreciated the session's conduct, wishing success in the presidency activities.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other matters of mutual interest.
