Azerbaijan to fund creation of carpet weaving center in Afghanistan

A significant agreement has been signed in Kabul to finance the creation of a Professional Carpet Weaving Center.

Report informs citing the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that the agreement was concluded between the OIC Mission in Afghanistan, the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA), and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kabul.

The project, titled "Establishment of a Technical and Vocational Carpet Weaving Training Center to Preserve and Promote Traditional Afghan Crafts," aims to safeguard Afghanistan's rich heritage of carpet weaving. The initiative will focus on training local artisans — especially women and youth — in both traditional and modern weaving techniques.

"With AIDA’s financial backing, the project will offer training in contemporary weaving methods, business development, and market access. This will not only preserve cultural traditions but also create sustainable livelihoods and strengthen long-term economic opportunities," the OIC emphasized.
