Azerbaijan’s envoy to Ukraine attends event in memory of Holocaust victims

The annual event and Holocaust Memorial Ceremony “Six Million Hearts” took place in Ukraine, Report informs.

The all-Ukrainian event, organized by the founder of the Jewish Forum of Ukraine Roksana Gamarnik, took place in an online format.

The memory of the victims of the Holocaust tragedy was honored by officials, including Ukrainian government officials, representatives of state authorities, religious and public leaders, as well as heads of diplomatic missions.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev also took part in the action, who emphasized the importance of the fight against any manifestations of violence, including ethnic and racial discrimination, genocide and terror.

“Today we mark one of the most heinous crimes of the history, the Holocaust. While honoring 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism, keeping the stories of those broken faiths suffered from the horrors of the strategy alive, so that each generation will be ready to tackle the hatred in any of its terrible forms, is important.

We pay tribute to those who survived the Holocaust. Azerbaijan is a home to thousands of Jews who have maintained their own material and spiritual culture, religion, language, mentality and self-consciousness throughout the centuries. Unfortunately, our nation, Jews and other minorities of Azerbaijan faced the similar crimes of military aggression throughout 20th century.

Blooded terror, mass violence, unprecedented Khojaly tragedy, when in one night, 613 people, including children, woman and elderly, killed, happened before the eyes of the international community. We’re still waiting for impunity to end and justice to prevail. We pledge never to forget, but also never to end the fight against the scourge of antisemitism, resolutely condemn and stand together against any form of violence, threat to humanity, ethnic and racial discrimination, intolerance, genocide and terror,” the ambassador said.

Chairman of the Assembly of Nationalities of Ukraine Rovshan Taghiyev also took part in the “Six Million Hearts” campaign.

He noted that such events not only help not to forget the tragic events in the history of mankind, but also provide an opportunity to unite to confront current challenges and difficulties: “We believe that the heinous crimes that occurred in the 20th century should not be repeated.”
