The opening of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) dedicated to the implementation and evaluation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) was held at the UN Headquarters in New York.

According to Report, the session is attended by state and government representatives from 193 UN member countries, UN agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) accredited to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Azerbaijan is represented at the session by a delegation led by Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee of Azerbaijan for Family, Women and Children Affairs.

Within the framework of the session, a high-level roundtable will be held, as well as a side event themed "Baku Climate Coalition - Green Transition of SMEs: Women's Empowerment" jointly organized by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Permanent Mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to the UN, and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of Azerbaijan (KOBIA).

CSW69 is expected to focus on gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide, including the review of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

This year the global community marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995).

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was established on June 21, 1946, by a decision of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as one of the Council's functional commissions.

As one of the UN's most important bodies, CSW aims to work at the global level to ensure equality between women and men and to empower women.

Each year in March, CSW meetings are accompanied by high-level participation for the first 3 days, with the remaining days devoted to technical work and discussions. Hundreds of participants, including government representatives from all UN member and observer countries invited by UN Women, UN officials, and civil society organizations, attend these meetings.
