Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are planning to expand their cooperation in the tourism sector.
Report informs via Uzbek media that a meeting took place in Samarkand on April 4, between Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Committee for Tourism of Uzbekistan, and Azada Huseynova, Deputy Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan.
As a result of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the State Unitary Enterprise "National PR Center" and the Azerbaijan Tourism Bureau. The document aims to develop and promote a unified tourist route along the Great Silk Road.
The main goal of the cooperation is to consolidate the tourism resources of both countries within the framework of the Joint Silk Road Highlights Tour initiative. The project involves the joint promotion of tourist routes in Central European countries, with a focus on key historical landmarks of the Silk Road, such as Baku, Shamakhi, Sheki, Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand.
As part of the memorandum, the parties also agreed to conduct joint B2B events, roadshows, and participate in international tourism exhibitions.
"Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, key players in the central section of the Silk Road, are strengthening their partnership to enhance their competitiveness in the global tourism market. The signing of this document opens up new opportunities for industry development and for reinforcing cultural and economic ties between the countries," the statement notes.
